How To Practice Preventative Care
We want to help our patients learn how to prevent dental problems from occurring. The best way to do this is with preventive dental care. When you care for your teeth properly, you have a better chance of keeping your natural teeth for life. Preventative dentistry focuses on keeping your teeth and mouth free from decay and disease, and it is something you can do on your own in conjunction with receiving care in our office. Read on to learn more about the importance of preventative dental care and how it can affect your oral health.
What is Preventative Care?
Preventative dental care is the act of caring for your teeth properly to avoid dental issues and problems in the future. All of our patients should receive preventative dental care because it creates a solid foundation for their oral health. We encourage our patients to visit our office every four to six months for a routine hygiene examination and cleaning. During this appointment, we evaluate the state of your oral health and determine if you need any restorative treatments.
How to Practice Preventative Dental Care at Home
In addition to visiting our office for a routine hygiene examination, it is equally important to maintain your oral hygiene routine between visits. Most of your dental care is your responsibility, since you only see us a couple times a year.
It is imperative that you brush your teeth for two minutes twice a day and use dental floss daily as well. Regularly inspect your teeth and gums and look for anything that doesn’t seem right. This can be done by visually looking in your mouth and also by running your tongue along your teeth and gums. If you notice any abnormalities, experience discomfort, or have a dental emergency, be sure to contact us as soon as possible.
We want you and your family to have excellent oral health for many years. If you or a loved one is in need of a routine hygiene examination, be sure to contact our office, which is located in Wilmington, DE, to schedule an appointment. We are also happy to welcome patients from Pike Creek and Newark, DE. We look forward to seeing you soon!
