Taking Care Of Your Children’s Teeth
Children’s Dentistry
One of the services we offer is Children’s Dentistry. We firmly believe that from their very first tooth, children deserve the best dental care. We also believe that starting dental care early increases the likelihood of maintaining white, healthy teeth for life.
Taking Care of Primary Teeth
Some people think primary teeth aren’t important since they’re temporary, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Primary teeth are important to the development of permanent teeth, so they need the same level of care.
Why?
Healthy primary teeth allow children to chew correctly, develop proper speech, and maintain space for their permanent teeth to grow. Tooth decay from poor care may cause primary teeth to fall out early, leading to crowding when permanent teeth emerge. Decay in primary teeth can also lead to abscesses, which may spread infection in the mouth.
Good Habits Start Young
Brush children’s teeth when they are little, and then teach them to brush on their own twice a day as soon as they are old enough. You’ll want to supervise their brushing initially to ensure they aren’t just playing with their toothbrush.
Bring your children in to see us for regular checkups. There are two benefits to starting dental visits early:
- Prevention and correction: Regular appointments allow us to catch, prevent, and treat issues early, just like with adult care.
- Building trust and comfort: It’s important for children to view the dentist’s office as a safe, welcoming place where there is nothing to fear. We will take our time to ensure they never feel rushed, and if they are afraid, we’ll do everything possible to make them feel safe and comfortable.
Developing a healthy relationship with the dentist at a young age can prevent dental anxiety later in life.
We welcome children of all ages and families of all sizes. Contact us today to make an appointment at our office in Wilmington, DE.
